Digital Sovereignty is a term that refers to an individuals full ownership and control of the technology they own, and in some cases the technology surrounding them. It is the full (or partial) optimization of the technology owned to meet the needs of the owner. Digital Sovereignty ensures that the technological device belongs to it's owner as long as they need it, without it forcing the user to pay a subscription based service to use any of it's features. Finally, Digital Sovereignty is the ensurement that a users technology does not violate their privacy.
== Why Is This Important? ==
As time goes on, technology becomes more invasive. In order to make a profit, technology companies are increasingly adding subscription services to their products to increase profits demanded by company shareholders. Many Internet connected devices will phone home, sharing your data with data brokers. Data brokers will often sell this info to anyone willing to buy it.
