Hello, I'm qv1et (pronounced "quiet"), some know me as Tobi. Some years ago I got into climate activism, learned more about the intertwined social and ecological crises the world is facing and started to develop more of a political consciousness. Not long after that I came across Solarpunk and have been following the growth of the movement, both online as well as at some real-life events. During the pandemic I got into personal knowledge management and have been tending my personal digital garden ever since. Through the Solarpunk Wiki I hope to share some of the information that I have gathered, share more of what I learn going forward, collaborate with others and hopefully build a community of people who want to weave together a network of knowledge on everything that is needed to make Solarpunk a reality.

I would love for the Solarpunk movement to make more of an impact in the real world by giving us (permission to envision) inspiring Images of the Future that can help drive social change. I believe that such images can be an antidote to cynical inaction and can give people ideas of how to push for the ecologically sustainable and socially just future they want to see. To this end I have started this wiki to collect and synthesize the information that is needed to put Solarpunk into practice.


=== Some Thoughts on Solarpunk and the Future ===
I am not hopeful in the sense that I believe we will save our current system by just replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy, i. e. I do not believe in green capitalism. I believe that given our current trajectory, collapse is the most likely scenario in the 21st century. Collapse not as a singular event but a process in which the previously established levels of complexity in a society's organization is declining. Nevertheless, I believe that when the established systems are failing and the previously held narratives that have been stabilizing them are losing their persuasive power, this can open up space to create something new in their place. My hope is that we as Solarpunks can contribute to this, by finding new narratives and images to aspire to as well as through substantial projects and actions that improve people's lives.
